Persephone was the daughter of the God Zeus, god of Olympus and the Goddess Demeter, goddess of agriculture. One day, Hades, god of the underworld and brother of Zeus, decided to kidnap his niece Persephone after falling in love with her. Demeter fell into depression and Zeus made a deal with Hades to rescue his daughter.
The deal did not work out as expected, as Hades left Persephone without food until her mother came down for her in the underworld, and on the day she did, Persephone was tempted to eat grenadillas that Hades planted as a trap.
Legend has it that each of those grenadillas was equivalent to a month in the underworld, giving way to the origin of the seasons. For half a year, Persephone was with her mother, giving rise to the good weather of spring and summer. And in the other six months she spent separated from her home, she gave way to cold and darkness.
