El pachulí o Pogostemon Cablin, ese aroma de Oriente

La Pogostemon Cablin è una pianta comunemente conosciuta come patchouli. Dalle sue foglie si estrae l'olio essenziale, che è conosciuto con lo stesso nome e che è stato utilizzato per secoli nella profumeria.

È un'erba arbustiva che può raggiungere fino a 90 centimetri di altezza e cresce nei climi umidi e temperati. Ha fiori con semi che sono molto fragranti e fioriscono durante la notte. Inoltre, non tollera l'esposizione alla luce diretta del sole.

Pachuli, Pogostemon Cablin

Per secoli, i mercanti di seta della Cina trasportavano le loro preziose sete introducendo in esse foglie di patchouli affinché la tignola non rovinasse i tessuti. Questo conferiva loro un peculiare aroma che è sempre stato associato all'opulenza e alla ricchezza.

Attualmente, associamo l'odore del patchouli all'epoca dell'amore libero e al movimento hippy, dato che veniva utilizzato frequentemente negli anni '60 e '70 e, tra le altre cose, mascherava l'odore della marijuana. Ma è stato utilizzato in Europa molto prima, fin dal XVIII secolo, nella produzione di tutti i tipi di profumi.

Il patchouli ha un aroma intenso e dolce che, mescolato con altre essenze nella proporzione adeguata, produce fragranze intense e di lunga durata che le rendono molto apprezzate in profumeria.

L'aroma del patchouli continua a evocare, con le sue note finali, un viaggio in India e in Oriente, un viaggio verso l'esotico, verso l'opulenza dei grandi palazzi dei maharaja e al colore dei paesi orientali.
