VETIVER
Vetiver, a scent that has accompanied us from the Far East to the present day, continues to be an essential protagonist of our most cherished aromatic memories.
The name vetiver comes from the Tamil language: it means unearthed root; and the specific name “zizanioides” means “river”. It gives an idea of its origin: it primarily grew on the banks of the rivers of India.
Vetiver is mainly cultivated for the extraction of the distilled oil from its roots. About 36% of Western perfumes contain this essence.
Its essential oil has a very slow evaporation rate which, along with its pleasant aroma, makes it a perfume in itself. It has been, since ancient times, an ingredient in perfume in the Far East and today it remains essential in intense, oriental (non-floral) perfumes and, therefore, very popular in men's perfumery.
