AVAU was founded by siblings Leonardo, Carolina and Caterina Catalani, the third generation of a family deeply connected to the world of perfume.
Their roots go back to the perfumery their family ran in Vatican City from the 1980s to the 2000s. In 1998, their parents continued that journey by founding a company dedicated to distributing niche perfumery and cosmetics in Italy.
The three siblings grew up surrounded by perfumes, raw materials, brands and conversations about olfactory creation. Yet AVAU was not born simply to extend the family tradition. It was born to offer a perspective of its own.
Leonardo leads the house's creative vision; Carolina provides the strategy and structure needed to turn that vision into a global brand; and Caterina, trained as a perfumer in Grasse and with experience at Floris London, translates emotions and concepts into olfactory compositions.
The name AVAU phonetically reproduces the English expression “a vow”, meaning “a promise” or “a commitment”. This idea runs through the brand's entire identity.
The promise may be made to another person, but also to oneself: staying true to an intuition, reclaiming a forgotten desire or making a decision in tune with one's own identity.
The logo echoes this idea through a reinterpretation of the letter “V” in the shape of a seal. A symbol that connects the tradition of ancient wax seals with a contemporary, clean and graphic design.
